Timberlane Regional School District has been wired for Video Conferencing since 2004. In the short period of time since then, we have traveled to many places and met many people, all from within the walls of our schools. Here is a sampling of just some of the things we have done.

 

5/2006
6th Grade Students at Timberlane Regional Middle School spoke with incoming 5th Graders via videoconference, prior to their arrival on Move-Up Day. Through individual conferences with every 5th grade class in the district, all incoming students had the opportunity to speak with 6th graders who came from the school they are currently attending. This was a massive collaboration effort between the Transition Committee, the Technology Department, and the 5th and 6th grade teachers. Although the schedule was interrupted by two rain days, all classes were still able to participate in conference sessions.

Students in Mrs. Fowler and Ms. Paladino's 6th grade team at Timberlane Regional Middle School attended the virtual field trip "Bridging Forces", presented by the Discovery Center. Students learned about structures, forces, and gravity while creating their own structures.

Mrs. Toscano's 2nd graders at Pollard School participated in a Poetry Collaboration Project with a first grade class at East Ramapo School District in Rockland, New York. In addition to poetry, the students also shared artwork and songs. The program concluded with a question and answer session where the second graders shared their learning experiences with the first graders in New York.

Mrs. Robichaud's 5th Graders at Pollard School visited the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, Virginia, to learn about the "Age of Exploration". This program was supplemented with student activities and teacher materials from the museum's website.

Students at Timberlane Regional Middle School attended a virtual field trip to the Cleveland Institute of Music for a program titled "Welcome to the Opera". Mr. Clark's sixth grade students had the opportunity to not only experience Opera through videos and soundtracks, but also watch a live opera demonstration. This performance was done by students at the school in Cleveland.

Students at Timberlane Regional High School made a virtual visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art. The students got the opportunity to explore Italian works of Art and ask questions to the museum staff.

Students at Timberlane Regional High School videoconferenced with representatives and students from New Hampshire Community Technical College. Through this multi-point conference, students were connected with both NHCTC Pease and Manchester Campuses.

Students at Sandown Central and Danville School simultaneously joined in on a conference with Kamehameha School students in Hawaii. They were able to exchange questions, performances, and songs. A half hour later, Atkinson Academy and Pollard School students had their chance to make contact with the students in Hawaii.

Danville School presents a visit from the Cat in the Hat. This program if first shared with students at Pollard School, and then with an elementary school in New York City. Not only can we receive programming, we can create our own presentations as well.

Students in Mrs. Marvin's and Mrs. Smith's 3rd grade classes at Pollard School visit the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA. The students learned about the rainforest while constructing their own puppets.

During Pollard School's annual Enrichment Day, students had the opportunity to learn about how rockets work. This was done via a live demonstration provided by the NASA Langley Research Center in Virginia. NASA has a wide selection of free videoconference presentations.

Mr. Smith's 7th grade students at Timberlane Regional Middle School showed Mrs. Robichaud's 5th graders at Pollard School how to design Tesselations with PowerPoint. This presentation had students learning and utilizing many of the hidden features withing the application.
Spring 2005
Mrs. Joyce's students at Sandown Central were pen-pals with students in Mrs. Robichaud's class at Pollard School. Both classes, 5th graders, who have been exchanging letters prior to the event, were now able to meet their pen-pals and share poetry.
Spring 2005
Mrs. Kennedy's 4/5 class at Pollard School viewed a demonstration on Magnetism. The class was provided with a package of materials to follow along with the demonstation they were watching.
