Important Message About Online Apps

December 8, 2014

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has come to my attention that individuals who have identified themselves as Timberlane Regional High School students are accessing a new social media application called “After School.” Some of the content posted to this site is of a very disturbing nature.

The After School application allows for the anonymous posting of pictures and text messages and is marketed as a free application that can be downloaded to an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.  It is accessed through an individual’s Facebook account.  The developer is called Ambient and further information about this application is located at www.afterschoolapp.com.

I want to make it clear that even though this app is described as an “anonymous and private message board for your school, ” it is in NO way affiliated, endorsed or organized through the Timberlane Regional School District.  Furthermore, I encourage you to talk with your child about this site and about the responsible and legal use of social media. If you want to check to see if your child has downloaded the app to his/her device, look for an icon of a tiger wearing yellow striped sunglasses.

Although this site appears to involve postings of high school students only, it seems prudent for us to direct this notice of caution to all our district parents.  The information highway (Internet) has its positive and educational uses; however, there are sites and people who have different motives when it comes to our children.  Please feel free to access the links below for helpful hints in talking to your children about the safe and appropriate use of the Internet.

Your child’s safety is very important to us.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact your building principal.
