Timberlane Offers Text Messaging to Increase District Communication

August 19, 2016

Parents and guardians can take advantage of our new Text Messaging Service!

The Timberlane Regional School District now utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more. “Enhancing communications aligns perfectly with the district’s commitment to increase rigor, accountability, evaluation and support, ” states Dr. Metzler, “We heard our stakeholder’s concerns about communication and we are on it!” Technology Director Ken Henderson adds, “School Messenger is another important tool in the district’s goal to provide timely and secure communications to parents and guardians.

If your text (cell) phone number is on file with the district, you can participate in this free service* just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. You need to do this for each device you wish to receive these messages from. You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop.”

If your text (cell) phone number is on file AND you have not already opted-in by texting “Y” to 67587, then on 8/24/16 you will receive the following text requesting you to opt-in to continue receiving important informational text messages from your child’s school: “To receive Timberlane Regional School District text messages. Reply Y to confirm, HELP 4 info. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. schoolmessenger.com/tm.”

You will also be able to customize how you get alerted through School Messenger (voice, text, email) through the Parent and Guardian Infocenter web portal. Instructions on creating an account and logging into Infocenter are located here: http://www.timberlane.net/wp-content/uploads/InfoCenter_SchoolMessenger.pdf

Important note about customization options: texting options will not be available until AFTER the initial messaging on 8/24/16.

Getting your text (cell) phone number on file is easy; just log onto the district website and update your information via InfoSnap. InfoSnap account information was sent out to parents in early August or you may contact your child’s school who will be happy to provide it.

SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy PledgeTM, so you can rest assured that your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone.

*Msg&data rates may apply.
