Chromebook Settings

Sound Settings:

Click on your profile icon at the bottom right to bring up the default settings popup window. Ensure that sound is not muted and that the volume is at least halfway up. You can adjust the volume from that slider. You can also use the F8 to mute, F9 to decrease volume and F10 to increase volume.

Accessibility Settings:

Sometimes these settings can be enabled by accident and cause unpredictable behavior of your Chromebook. For example, a feature called ChromeVox is an accessibility tool that will read text on a screen to the user – you will see an orange box highlights the words and the computer reads it out loud to you. Use the directions below to disable.

To access Accessibility Settings:

  • Must be logged into Chromebook
  • Click on your profile icon at the bottom right of the screen
  • Select the Settings icon (looks like a gear)
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the setting window and click on “Show advanced settings”
  • Scroll down to the Accessibility settings section and uncheck “Enable ChromeVox” (spoken feedback) for problem described above.
  • Keyboard should be “US”
