Achievement Levels Rise for Timberlane’s Grade 11 Students

November 1, 2016

In 2015 New Hampshire partnered with the College Board to replace the Grade 11 Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) with SAT School Day.  The recently redesigned SAT assessed English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics.  The assessment focused on what students learned in classrooms as it aligned with New Hampshire’s College and Career Readiness standards and Timberlane curricula.

SAT School Day represented the first time that ALL students participated in the College Board SAT.  Students demonstrated personal investment in the assessment as it provided a pathway toward college and career goals.  Students were permitted to submit up to four free score reports to colleges and universities of their choosing following the release of individual scores in May, 2016.

The Timberlane Regional School District is proud to announce that the percentage of Grade 11 students who met or exceeded benchmarks on state accountability testing in ELA increased from 50% in 2015 to 64% in 2016, and from 29% to 41% in Mathematics.  Timberlane outperformed this year’s state average in Mathematics and surpassed several surrounding towns in Mathematics and English Language Arts.

District administrators and teachers are currently reviewing the newly released data.  Director of Data, Assessment, and Accountability, Mrs. Christi Michaud, reported that, “The SAT School Day provides a representation of college readiness, ” and indicated that “the District will continue to support and promote excellence for Timberlane students.”

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Earl Metzler, applauds both staff and students for their continuous efforts and emphasizes the District’s commitment to maintaining the highest levels of rigor, evaluation, accountability, and support.
