New Elementary Report Card in Timberlane

November 21, 2017

The Timberlane Regional School District is committed to communicating with parents about student achievement and progress toward grade level learning goals. The district is pleased to announce the launch of a new competency based elementary report card (Grades K-5). The new report card is web-based and will be accessible to parents via the PowerSchool Parent Portal on Friday, December 8, 2017 or by requesting a paper copy through their school office.

Detailed instructions will be emailed to parents next week regarding how to create a PowerSchool account and how to access all new report card resources. Six parent forums were held throughout the district in October. A link to the presentation for parents can be found at http://www.timberlane.net/new-report-card-information-k-5/.

Since New Hampshire’s official adoption of Competency Based Education in 2013, Timberlane educators and administrators have worked tirelessly to develop competency based curricula in all subject areas and grade levels PreK-12. Competency statements are written to include what students should know and be able to do, as well as why. District-wide teams have developed resources including “I can” statements to provide parents a better understanding of end of year competency.

District administrator, Mrs. Christi Michaud, and several school leaders, have led the new Elementary Report Card project over the past couple years. Mrs. Michaud explains that along with a new reporting tool, instructional practices in Timberlane have begun to shift toward more personalized learning. Teachers recognize that children learn at different rates and require instruction designed to meet their individual needs. A competency based model allows teachers to personalize instruction and facilitate learning and growth regardless of where students are on their learning path. Timberlane educators are excited about sharing student successes and areas for growth with parents on the new elementary report card.

Parents are encouraged to ask questions and to share their comments on the new elementary report card with teachers and school principals. Partnering with the district and our schools enables rigor, accountability, evaluation, and systems of support to further be realized. The Timberlane School District thanks its’ students and families for their continuous feedback and involvement.
