Notice – TRSD Google Apps for Education

October 20, 2012

The Timberlane Regional School District recently obtained a computer application known as Google Apps for Education. This is a free resource Google has provided to schools, that allows access to many useful applications that can be used for educational purposes.

This action was based on recent student Speak Up survey results where students told us they would like 24/7 access to their schoolwork, along with the capability to collaborate with classmates on group projects. We are excited to be able to offer these opportunities to students through this program. The District has provided each High School student with a Gmail account. This will give them access to all of the resources on Google Apps for Education.

These new Gmail accounts run through our District Google Apps for Education system. They operate the same as regular Gmail accounts, but without any advertisements. We would like to remind both you and our students that these new accounts are a privilege and are the property of the Timberlane Regional School District. It is our expectation that students will use their school Gmail account responsibly, and any misuse may result in the student losing his/her Gmail account.

The School District believes students will benefit greatly by having 21st century resources available to them to support and enhance their educational experience and learning development. Google Apps for Education provides students with resources to help them master the important 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Thank you for all the support that you provide us.
