Principal’s Welcome Letter

Welcome to Pollard School and thanks for visiting our web site! We hope that you find the information contained here to be useful and informative as you “surf” our site. Please come visit and observe first hand the warm, caring, and child-centered school that has been created through a partnership among faculty, staff, parents, students, and community members alike.

We are committed to helping all of our “Pollard Penguins” S.W.I.M. (staying safe, working it out, independent learners, and making good choices). We have created a school community where every child’s individuality and needs are considered when our instructional practices and enhanced programs are implemented.

Hopefully, we are all ready to start a new school year filled with some exciting new challenges and outstanding opportunities. Please take some time to review our parent-student handbook (located online under “Documents”). Whether you are a new parent or an experienced returning parent to our school community, this booklet will provide you with helpful answers and guidance to our school expectations and procedures.

You may also want to check out our website’s “Photo Album” link.  We try to add new pictures after each new school event and the kids (and parents) really seem to enjoy finding their pictures. Our Pollard Pen Newsletters are also available on our website (Pollard News link) if pictures aren’t enough and you would like to read about the different activities.

You will find information concerning bus routes and schedules in the local newspapers and on  It is the parents’ responsibility to insure that their child reports to the bus stop nearest to their home.  The pick-up and drop-off times that will be listed are approximate.  Please have your child ready at least five-ten minutes prior to the pick-up time for the first few days of school.  After this, you should be able to judge the actual pick-up time and adjust your schedule accordingly.  If you drive your child to school, please drop them off at the back of the school at our Drop-off/Pick-up entrance between 8:15-8:25. Staff members will be there to greet students.  Do not let children exit your car unless there is an adult on duty.  All school doors are locked except the main office entrance so no child should be dropped off before 8:15. This is for everyone’s safety. Children arriving after 8:30 will be considered tardy and should be brought to the main office with their parent or guardian to sign them in.  Mid-day kindergarten dismissal (11:10AM) and drop-off (12:40PM) will be at this same back entrance.  The end of day pick-up begins at 3:10 pm.  You should make all dismissal changes on Pick-Up Patrol before 2PM. All permanent changes to your child’s dismissal plan must be submitted to the office in writing.  We have “Pollard School Dismissal Forms” at the office that you can fill out when your child has a change of dismissal. If you have any bus questions or concerns, please call Sandy Hodgkins, our Transportation Coordinator, at 382-6119 ext. 2229.

The cost of hot lunch is $13.00 for the week ($2.60 per day).  If your child wishes to purchase milk to drink with a packed lunch, it is $2.50 per week ($.50 per day). We also offer breakfast at $1.25/day.  Half-day Kindergarten children do not have school lunch or milk.  Whitson’s Culinary Group sent a letter to everyone outlining payment options, if you need more information please visit our district website. We urge all families that think they may qualify for free or reduced lunch to fill out the form we send home on the first day of school.

You may want to download the Timberlane Regional School District App. The app has district calendars, PowerSchool, Pick-Up Patrol as well as lunch and bus information. If you have Twitter you can follow @PollardSchool.

Once again, I welcome you the 2019-2020 school year and I look forward to working with all of you in the year ahead. If you have ideas or suggestions that you would like to share, please feel free to contact me. Let us be sure to keep the lines of communication open. Together we will make a positive difference in the lives of our children!

Your child’s principal,

Doug Blay
