Superintendent’s Message – December 17, 2013

December 17, 2013

Happy Holidays Timberlane!

We have had quite a busy Fall in Timberlane. Recently every student in the District completed the Tripod Project Survey. The Tripod Project Survey provides us with valid and reliable information through a student survey. The information collected will help both administrators and the instructional staff self-reflect; we will use Student Voice to improve the delivery of services to students. Timberlane will continue to use this proven, research-based process to listen to students and make adjustments based on their specific learning needs. I want to thank all of the Timberlane students for their honest feedback.

The Superintendent’s Leadership Team has finished its Fall session of Instructional Rounds visiting each school in the district. Each school’s leadership team identified a specific practice for the SLT to investigate during our rounds. Learning Targets, Differentiated Instruction and how students demonstrate what they have mastered are several examples of the evidence we collected. Each school’s leadership team was provided a Theory of Action to incorporate into their Action Plans. We will continue this work in the Spring. I want to take this opportunity to thank each of our School’s Leadership Teams as well as the classroom teachers and students for sharing their outstanding work with us.  This work will clearly shape the vision of our District for years to come.

Budget season is in full swing.  This always provides us challenges and opportunities. We stay committed to finding the most efficient ways to deliver powerful instruction to our students and at the same time living within our means. Districts throughout New Hampshire were hit with unexpected increases last year, and those unexpected increases show up in our tax bills. Thank you for supporting our efforts to have a district that we can all be very proud of.

Thank you to the 8th grade parents who contacted me about high school options next year. I continue to be excited about the improvements we are making to our high school.  Many parents that considered other options in the past are now considering giving Timberlane a shot. For those who do, I know you will be happy that you did. Your continued efforts to provide me with honest feedback assists in helping us be the very best that we can be.

Congratulations to the more than 50 students that have earned all-state honors in music. Under the direction of one of the Nation’s best, Mr. DiBartolomeo, Timberlane continues to lead the learning in music education and performing arts.

In closing, please take the time during our winter break to enjoy precious time together with your loved ones. We can get so busy in our day to day lives that spending quality time with loved ones can get lost.   It happens to me too…and I never like how it feels when I reflect back on it.

Timberlane is a very special place for one reason and one reason only, because of the caliber of the people we serve. Happy holidays, Merry everything, and on behalf of the Timberlane Regional School District I wish everyone a safe and healthy holiday season.
