PROHIBITION OF COMMON CORE (SB 101)
On May 18, 2015, the Governor vetoed a bill that would have prohibited the Department of Education from requiring common core standards to be implemented in any school or school district in the state.
RIGHT TO OPT OUT OF ASSESSMENT (HB 603)
On May 18, 2015, the Governor vetoed a bill that would have allowed a student to be exempted from taking the statewide assessment by the student’s parent or guardian without penalty. The bill would have required the district to provide an appropriate alternative educational activity for the time period during which the assessment would have been administered.
